2023 Lightning Talk Program: Call for Abstracts
This year’s Summit will include a series of live, lightning-talk presentations where data storytellers in our community can share their work. We invite participants to submit abstracts or projects to be considered for the session on October 17, 2023.
LOGISTICS
Selected lightning talk will be presented at an in-person session during the Summit in Boston, MA on October 17, 2023. Abstracts will be accepted on a rolling basis, and can include written abstracts, samples of work, or audio/video recordings describing a project.
Submitted abstracts will be accepted on a rolling basis until October 5, 2023 at 11:59pm ET.
If accepted, you will be notified by email.
Data Storytelling & Community Leadership Stories
This year's theme is Writing our Story - Collective Leadership for Joy, Justice, and Healing.
We are looking for presentations reporting
1) community leadership stories or
2) data storytelling work that highlight efforts to reimagine, strengthen, and restore healthcare, public health, education, legal, social, and other systems to promote children’s well-being and prevent trauma.
Data storytelling work can be research projects
Community narratives, or community advocacy work which uses data to tell a story. While community leadership stories responding to do not have specific guidelines, we encourage presenters to use visual aids such as pictures, maps, or graphs.
Vital Village can provide technical support and guidance as you prepare your presentations. Community members are welcome to sign-up for our Data Storytelling Workshop Series and explore tools and frameworks for collecting, visualizing, and evaluating community-driven data.
We also invite you to register for optional 1:1 office hours if you would like tailored support on your abstract preparation, project, or lightning talk
Summit Registration
All presenters must register to attend the summit.
Please note that summit registration ends on October 6.

Abstract Submission
All abstracts must be submitted by October 5, 2023 in order to be considered. The abstract guidelines and submission form can be found on the following pages.
Acceptance notification
Posters will be reviewed & accepted on a rolling basis until October 5, 2023. You will be notified of your acceptance via email by October 6, 2023.
Final Poster Upload
If you are using slides for your presentation, we ask that you please share a copy of the final presentation materials as a backup by Friday, October 13, 2023.
